AirPods Support & Troubleshooting

Independent, straightforward guidance for common AirPods issues — pairing, charging, audio, the microphone, connection drops and how to reset.

Wireless earbuds are wonderfully convenient right up until they will not connect or the sound goes quiet on one side. Below is clear troubleshooting for the AirPods issues we help with most. Try the relevant steps, and reach out to our independent team if you need more help.

Pairing problems

If your AirPods will not pair, refreshing Bluetooth and re-pairing usually resolves it.

  • Put both earbuds in the case, keep the lid open, and place it near your device.
  • Make sure Bluetooth is on and the case is charged.
  • Forget the AirPods in your Bluetooth settings, then pair them again.
  • Restart your phone or computer if the AirPods still do not appear.

Charging problems

Charging issues usually involve the case, the cable or dirty contacts.

  • Check that the case itself has charge — the earbuds charge from it.
  • Try a different cable or charging pad and a known-good power source.
  • Gently clean the earbuds and the inside of the case, as debris blocks the contacts.
  • Seat each earbud firmly in the case and watch for the charging indicator.

Audio issues

Uneven volume, dropouts or muffled sound often clear up with cleaning and a reset of audio balance.

  • Clean the speaker mesh gently — earwax and dust are the usual cause of quiet audio.
  • Check the left/right audio balance in your accessibility settings.
  • Disable automatic ear detection temporarily to test whether it is the cause.
  • Reset the AirPods if one side stays silent (see the reset section below).

Microphone problems

If people cannot hear you clearly, the microphone or its settings are usually involved.

  • Clean the microphone openings on each earbud.
  • Set the microphone option to Automatic so either earbud can be used.
  • Test in a quiet room to rule out background noise.
  • Reset the AirPods if the microphone remains unreliable.

Connection drops

Intermittent dropouts are often caused by interference or a stale connection.

  • Keep your device with you and away from sources of wireless interference.
  • Toggle Bluetooth off and on, then reconnect.
  • Make sure both the AirPods and your device software are up to date.
  • If drops continue, forget and re-pair, or reset the AirPods.

Reset guidance

Resetting AirPods clears most stubborn problems and gives you a clean pairing.

  • Place both earbuds in the case and close the lid for about 30 seconds.
  • Open the lid, then forget the AirPods from your device's Bluetooth list.
  • With the lid open, press and hold the button on the case until the light flashes amber, then white.
  • Pair the AirPods again as if they were new.

Exact steps vary slightly by model. If you are unsure which model you have, our independent team can walk you through the correct process.
